So do you think anyone will head to the beach for the Memorial Day holiday weekend? Uh…only about ten billion people!
Okay, that's a bit of an exaggeration (probably closer to five billion!), but I guarantee you, there will be a lot of folks headed down to the coast. And chances are, all those people will want to eat at some time or another!
Where's the best place to eat at the beach? That's about the number one question I would get from people when we were shooting Carolina Camera stories.
We did quite a few stories down along the coast…and ate at quite a few places. Plus, I've been vacationing at the coast since I was a youngster and I've been to a LOT of restaurants... and a few have become must-go-to favorites.
What about you? What are your favorite places to eat at the beach? It would be great if you'd share your thoughts about your favorite on this blog! We could get a great list of good restaurants going!
Of course, opinions about the best restaurants differ... that's why there are so many different ones! But for what it's worth, I'll give you a couple here that I always make it a point to visit when I'm at the beach.
#1 on my list of favorite restaurants along the Carolinas coast: Duffy Street Seafood Shack in the Cherry Grove section in North Myrtle Beach. Let me tell you, I love their fish tacos!! I never miss having them when I'm down in Cherry Grove.
I can't say I've ever been disappointed with anything I've ever had there…and I've tried just about everything on the menu. And I always start out with a dozen raw oysters. They're always fresh and a great way to get your meal going! I also recommend the crab cakes. They have hardly any filler…it's all about the crab!
Now Duffy Street is not one of those places with white table cloths that you need to dress up for to go to. In fact some folks might call it a bit of a dive. Shorts, tee shirts and sandals are appropriate here. It's one of those places that has peanuts in the shell at the tables…and you dump the shells on the floor as you eat your peanuts.
I think the atmosphere is terrific. Other folks must think so as well, because depending on when you go to Duffy's it can be packed, with a line of customers stretching down the sidewalks! My suggestion is to go as early as you can so you don't have to wait.
One other place I'll mention in this blog to help get the conversation going is also there in the Cherry Grove area... the Bar-B-Que House in North Myrtle Beach, just before you drive into Cherry Grove.
They have two other locations in Oak Island and Surfside (although I haven't been to them). It's certainly not seafood, but it's some of the best barbeque I've eaten. In fact, I think the Bar-B-Que House has won a few awards for best barbeque at the beach. It's worth a try!
So let me know what you think! I'm getting hungry just thinking about all the great places we can come up with!
