CONCORD, NC (WBTV) - As we enter a busy sports weekend here in Charlotte - I must say the event that is closest to my heart is the Sprint All Star Race.

I was hired by Paul Cameron back in 1989 to be a sports photographer/reporter.

During the interview process, he introduced me to NASCAR Owner Rick Hendrick and we took a ride around Charlotte Motor Speedway in a BMW. I was pretty much hooked then.

I was hired a couple of weeks later in May and my first event that I covered was the All-Star Race. It was known back then as the Winston.

So, needless to say one of my first memories was the famous Tide Slide in NASCAR. I was down in the infield that day when Rusty Wallace sent Darrell Waltrip spinning through the grass at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Perhaps we will see more fireworks like that this Saturday with the return of Kyle "Rowdy" Busch from injury.

Have a great weekend. Hope it's memorable!
