A new kind of subscription gets you a personal shopper

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

Your life is busy. You're rushing from morning until bedtime. A leisurely shopping trip to browse and try something new probably isn't high on your to-do list.

Several online companies are taking advantage of your hectic schedule and doing the work for you. Then they're making deliveries straight to your door. There's a twist here, though.

These are subscription services. Not like magazines, these subscriptions land in your mailbox in brown boxes. The names on the outside indicate what might be inside.

For $7 you can get snacks sent to you every two weeks. Beauty samples for men or women will show up at your house every month for $10. $20 every month will get you treats and toys for your pet.

StitchFix sends women's clothing, usually five items. You pay only for what you keep and send the rest back free of charge.

Here's the twist. In most cases you do not choose what is in the boxes. Someone else does that for you after you answer a long series of questions about preferences, style, likes and dislikes.

"We do ask you a series of questions before we send you anything," said Andres Izquieta with Five Four Club.

Five Four Club is a men's clothing line that is sold by subscription only. For $60 each month an entire outfit shows up on your doorstep. It might be a pair of jeans and a button down or a sweater and a shirt.

"We went from 6,000 to 85,000 members in 18 months and part of that is because guys don't want to shop. Also, though, people are time poor and money rich. This is convenient," Izquieta said.

Tom Hadfield, with personal shopping service Fetch, agrees. His company has buying assistants all over the country waiting to track down what you don't want to go out and buy, for the best price.

"We're all so busy these days. Having help make life easier, we think, makes a big difference," Hadfield said.

One thing to keep in mind is that these subscription services can be pricey and might not be for everyone. It is important to read the fine print and details about how you're charged and how often before you signup. Click the links below to learn more about each company.
