Salisbury businessman dies as result of April 14 traffic accident

SALISBURY, NC (WBTV) - A well known local businessman has died as a result of injuries he suffered in a traffic accident in Ashe County on April 14.

Andy Echerd, 66, of Mount Ulla, was injured in a three vehicle accident at the intersection of Frank Dillard Road and NC 163 in West Jefferson. Echerd's Chevrolet van was struck head on by a car that crossed the center line to avoid another vehicle that was stopped and waiting to make a left turn, according to the Highway Patrol.

Talmadge Trivett, 74, of West Jefferson was cited for driving left of the center line.

Echerd was a graduate of East Mecklenburg High School. He then graduated from Central Piedmont Community College and Appalachian State University Class of 1971.

Echerd was the owner and operator of Echerd and Associates, Inc., a medical supply and x-ray equipment sales company, for over 25 years.

He was a member of First Baptist Church in Salisbury, where he had taught Sunday school.

A funeral service will be held at 3 pm Sunday (May 3) at First Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. Dr. Kenneth Lance and Rev. Brian Farmer. The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall.
