Rowan-Cabarrus celebrates topping out of the 600 building

SALISBURY, NC (WBTV) - It was a big day on the campus of Rowan-Cabarrus Community College as leaders signed the final beam to top out the renovation and enlargement of the school's health services building.

The expansion was paid for through a bond referendum that passed in 2010. The renovation will provide an additional 30,000 square feet and a new facade that will face Interstate 85 in Salisbury.

RCCC President Carol Spalding told WBTV that it was a major milestone for the school.

"It's a new symbol of hope and of new jobs for the community." Spalding told WBTV. "We're going to have two new programs, health related programs in the building as well as have renovated and state of the art classrooms for our students."

Students have been in class in part of the building while the work is going on. They hope to have the renovation finished by January.
