High speed chase involving motorcycle ends with arrest

SALISBURY, NC (WBTV) - Salisbury Police started, but then called off a chase with a man on a motorcycle late Monday night.

According to the report, a police officer was going to make a traffic stop at the intersection of Church and Fisher Streets when the rider took off.  The officer pursued for a while, but then called off the chase when the speeds increased and the 1994 Honda CRB was showing no sign of slowing down.

Police say Matthew Ryan Lowry, 22, drove through several intersections on his way out of Salisbury and into Faith, including at least one four way stop intersection.

At one point while on the ramp from S. Main to Jake Alexander Boulevard Lowry laid down the bike for a moment, and lost a shoe in the process. He got the bike up and kept going.

Eventually he was stopped in Rockwell.

Lowry was charged with fleeing to elude arrest, failure to stop for blue light and siren, speeding, and damage to property. Bond was set at $20,000.
