Part of Highway 152 in Rowan County was closed on Wednesday while emergency workers handled a serious traffic accident.

Hwy 152 was closed from Five Forks to Stirewalt Rd due to cleanup from a traffic accident, according to the Atwell Volunteer Fire Department.

Units from Atwell Fire, Rowan EMS, China Grove Fire, Landis Fire, Salisbury Fire Hazmat Team, Rowan Fire Marshal, and the North Carolina State Highway Patrol have been working the incident since about 3:15pm.

Two tractor-trailers were involved in the accident, which happened in the 1900 block of Highway 152.

According to the Highway Patrol, a driver turned left into a driveway and the car behind that car slammed on its brakes, triggering a chain reaction. The driver of one of the trucks also stopped suddenly,  then slid, crossed the center line, and struck the second truck.

The driver of the first truck was injured, but his condition is not known.
