The video has caught the attention of Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Animal Care and Control (AC&C). Officials say AC&C is investigating the video.
The video was posted online Tuesday afternoon.
The person who posted the video sent a message to AC&C saying that they "heard [the] neighbors dog crying and seen (sic) him yelling at her."
A few minutes later the dog was crying again, so they started to record and saw him beating the dog with an object.
The video was shared hundreds of times and viewed thousands of times before the person removed it from social media.
The person posted the address of the home with the video, saying its along Simmons Street in Charlotte. Since the video went viral, they removed the exact address from the posting.

Wednesday morning, the person posted that animal control officers removed the black dog seen in the video from the home.
