Man, 72, charged with pointing shotgun at neighbor

SALISBURY, NC (WBTV) - A disagreement between two neighbors renting rooms in a home on Short Street ended with a third party jumping in to break up a fight and wrestle a shotgun away from one man, according to police.

Salisbury Police say James Lee Clodfelter, 72, and Vergie Mae Johnson, 72,were arguing in a house at 1044 Short Street.  At one point, Johnson says Clodfelter picked up a 16 gauge shotgun and pointed it at Johnson's feet and legs, and threatened to kill her.

A third person, Elliot Houser, Jr., heard the disturbance and rushed into the room.  Houser said Johnson and Clodfelter were fighting over the gun.  Houser managed to take it away and call police.

When police arrived they found Houser holding the shotgun in one hand and the shell in the other.  He handed the weapon to police.

Clodfelter was charged with assault by pointing a gun and communicating threats.  He was jailed under $5000 bond.
