SALISBURY, NC (WBTV) - A man is being held in the Rowan County detention center under a bond of $1 million, charged with sex crimes that involved a 7-year-old girl.
Joseph Nathaniel Cranford was arrested Wednesday and booked into the jail just after 1:00 a.m. Thursday.
Cranford, 21, is charged with first degree rape, disseminating obscene material, and first degree sex offense.
According to the report at the sheriff's office, the alleged victim in the case, who is now 10 years old, told a teacher at her elementary school that she had been molested by Cranford.
While not a member of the girl's immediate family, Cranford is known to the girl and would have had reason to be around her, according to the report.
According to the arrest warrants, there were several incidents of inappropriate sexual activity including rape and other sex acts between Cranford and the girl. One warrants states that Cranford showed pornography to the child.
The incidents allegedly happened at Cranford's home on Lippard Road.
