SALISBURY, NC (WBTV) - Investigators say more than $400 in fake money passed at a Family Dollar store in Salisbury is just the latest in a rash of counterfeit money found in the area.
The money was given to a clerk at the Family Dollar Tuesday in the form of four $100 bills.
Investigators say the counterfeit money was not spotted by the clerk at the time, but was noticed by the store's manager at the end of the day. The serial number on each of the bills was exactly the same.
The person who passed the fake money bought pre-paid Visa gift cards.
Investigators say they have also seen fake $20 bills being passed around at other businesses in Salisbury. So far, investigators have seen the money at several convenience stores, Walmart and Food Lion.
It's not clear if the incidents are connected. If you have any information, you are asked to call police.
