A Salisbury man watched in shock at two men drove off in his car early Tuesday morning.

The man had pulled his 2007 Chevrolet Impala into the the parking lot at the Citgo on W. Innes Street.

According to the police report, Terence Phifer left the keys in the car and the door unlocked while he went into the store.

As the cashier was ringing up his purchase, she noticed two men running from another car towards Phifer's Chevy.

The cashier told Phifer what was happening, and he ran into the parking lot just in time to see the men take off in his car. Two other men who were in a burgundy Chevrolet Lumina also left at the same time.

The clerk said that all four men had been in the Lumina in the parking lot for about ten minutes prior to Phifer arriving at the store.

Two hours later, at around 4:30, a Highway Patrol trooper called Salisbury Police to report finding the Chevy Impala abandoned at an underpass on I-85 at Highway 311 in Jamestown.

The car had been involved in an accident.

Anyone with information on the crime is asked to contact Salisbury-Rowan Crime Stoppers at 1-866-639-5245.
