Man who thought he "was dreaming," wakes up to be jailed for stealing from parents

According to the report at the Rowan Sheriff's Office, Billy Edward Lucas, III, told deputies he thought he "was in a dream" when they arrested him on Saturday after a friend found him hiding in a closet.

Investigators had gotten information from the the man's parents that they believed their son had stolen two televisions, a laptop computer, and a tablet computer on March 9 when he was home alone.

Deputies went to a house on Long Ferry Road on Saturday after receiving information that Lucas might be at that location.

When deputies arrived they were met by a man at the door. According to the report, when they told the man they were looking for Lucas, he turned and walked through the house yelling "Billy!"

At one point the man opened a closet door and saw Billy standing there.  The man said "Billy, get your a** out here, the cops are here."

When asked why he was hiding in the closet, Lucas allegedly said that he thought he "was in a dream."

Lucas denied stealing items from his parents, but then told deputies that he had taken the items and pawned them at a local pawn shop.  Deputies then found a number of power tools that they say were stolen from a truck belonging to the father of Billy Lucas, III.

Lucas was charged with breaking and entering, misdemeanor larceny, and felony larceny, and is being held under $10,000 bond.
