"Polar Plunge" makes a splash on Saturday for Special Olympics

SALISBURY, NC (WBTV) -

A fundraiser for Special Olympics in Rowan County made quite a splash on Saturday, as dozens of hearty souls took a dip in frigid High Rock Lake.

The “Polar Plunge” was the occasion, and it took place at the Elks River Park at the end of Long Ferry Road.

Teams collected money from folks who made pledges, then those team members waded into the 40 degree water, on a cool, cloudy, misty, 50 degree day.

Participants seemed to have a lot of fun, and when it was over, more than $6000 had been raised to benefit Special Olympics in Rowan County.
