8 years on the run comes to an end for Rowan County man

SALISBURY, NC (WBTV) - A man who had been on the run from Rowan County authorities for eight years is now in custody.

Maurice Boyd Woodward, who has been wanted by the Rowan County Sheriff's Office since 2007, has been arrested in the State of Louisiana.

Woodward was arrested on Saturday after Sgt. Carl Dangerfield, of the Rowan County Sheriff's Office, was researching persons on the Sheriff's Most Wanted list.

Sgt. Dangerfield was able to determine that Maurice Woodward had an address on Old Genessee Rd., Trickfaw, LA., and made contact with law enforcement officials in that jurisdiction.

The address was checked and Woodward was located and arrested without incident, according to the Rowan Sheriff's Office.

The Rowan County District Attorney's Office will coordinate the extradition of Woodward back to Rowan County so he can be tried on the offenses for which he is charged.

Woodward was wanted on two counts of possession of a firearm by a felon and drug possession with the intent to sell and deliver cocaine.

According to the warrant, Woodward was in possession of a .45 Colt Derringer pistol and a .380 Lorcin handgun.

The drug charges involve four grams of cocaine. Woodward was also found with plastic baggies, a straw, and digital scales, according to the warrant.

Woodward's prior criminal record includes a conviction of selling LSD in 1987.
