We call it a marriage made in heaven...a partnership we hope will last a lifetime.
We're talking about the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association – better known as the CIAA –
having its basketball tournament in our backyard, and moving its headquarters here next year.
This is the 10th year the Queen City has hosted the tournament.
Through the years it has been a time of fellowship...
a time to raise money for college scholarships...
and a time to see great basketball.
We are thrilled the CIAA Commissioner – Jacqie McWilliams – is not stopping at the success the tournament has made.
Rather, she has stepped up her game to take it to the next level.
This year, the CIAA has taken control of local hotels to help control prices.
We think that's a good idea.
The organization is also doing creative marketing to encourage more people to buy tickets and see the games.
And the Commissioner is doing her part to become a good neighbor in Charlotte .
We applaud her on that.
The CIAA is now partnering with several community organizations.
This demonstrates commitment and that the CIAA is interested in creating strong relationships.
We hope Charlotte will also do its part to be a good neighbor to the CIAA.
We don't want this happy marriage to end in divorce.
That would prove costly in many, many ways.
