SALISBURY, NC (WBTV) - Drivers on Mooresville Road in Salisbury were somewhat concerned after seeing a red pickup truck that appeared to have flashing blue lights. One driver called police to report seeing the truck.
It happened Thursday night just before 11:00 pm.
Police responded and spotted a truck matching the description on Jake Alexander Boulevard near Mooresville Road. The officer turned around and began to follow the truck as it drove on Mooresville Road near Sunset Drive.
According to the report, when the officer tried to stop the truck, the truck driver refused to pull over, and increased his speed.
The officer said that the truck driver crossed a double yellow line to pass a scooter at 65 miles an hour, then pulled up beside a Jeep that had been ahead of him on the road. Both had stopped near Majolica Road.
The officer stopped behind the truck, got out and walked to the truck and ordered the driver out. The driver was identified as Cody Ryan Fox, 18, of Neel Road.
According to the report, Fox resisted arrested by not allowing the officer to place him in handcuffs. At that point the officer used a stun gun on Fox.
When asked why he didn't stop, Fox allegedly told the officer that he was trying to catch up to his wife, who was the driver of the Jeep, in order to tell her that he was being pulled over.
Fox was arrested, but also taken to the hospital to be checked after he fell on the ground.
Fox was charged with resisting police, felony flee to elude arrest, careless and reckless driving, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was also charged on an outstanding warrant for misdemeanor larceny.
Fox was jailed and later released on $3500 bond.
The flashing blue lights that drivers had seen were accent lights placed under the bumper of the truck and also in the truck's interior, according to the report.
