SALISBURY, NC (WBTV) -

The good news for folks in Rowan County is that the storm brought more sleet than freezing rain, and sleet won't coat trees and power lines the way freezing rain will.  Even so, slick roads caused a lot of accidents and some residents are dealing with power outages.

On Old Mocksville Road there was a large group of utility trucks working to fix an outage that was impacting dozens of homes.  Neighbors say a truck slid on the ice Monday night and struck the power pole, causing the outage. One man drove up to the barrier and told WBTV that he lived just off Old Mocksville and that the temperature inside his house was 48 degrees.

Midday Tuesday, Rowan County EMS Director Frank Thomason will meet again via conference call with the heads of local agencies like the fire and law enforcement departments, hospitals, schools, and power companies to assess the situation for the county and determine what needs exist.

With the temperatures remaining very low through the weekend, there may be additional problems, closings, and cancellations. WBTV will update this story following the meeting and will provide details on what officials discussed.
