More than a dozen residents displaced in Matthews apartment fire

Twenty residents at an apartment complex in Matthews are getting assistance after a fire.

It broke out around 11 o'clock Saturday night on Paces Avenue, that's near Matthews Township Parkway.

Fire investigators tell WBTV the blaze started in a rear upstairs unit because of a possible electrical malfunction.

There was minor damage but the fire displaced several residents in an eight-unit building. The Red Cross is assisting them.

The apartment complex plans to reimburse them for their hotel stay.
