WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) -

The forecast for this weekend through early next week is predicated on Hurricane Maria tracking between the Carolinas and Bermuda. Expect heavy surf and rip currents amid otherwise nice conditions: sunny to partly sunny skies.

*The National Weather Service has noted a high risk of rip currents for Saturday and Sunday. Heed warnings from area beaches, if your plans take you to the coast.*

SATURDAY NIGHT DETAILS: For the rest of the afternoon, expect mostly sunny skies which will help boost temperatures in the middle and upper 80s. Mostly clear skies will continue through the overnight hours and with light northeasterly breezes. Lows are projected to be in the middle and upper 60s.

SUNDAY FORECAST DETAILS: Expect sunny to partly sunny skies with daytime highs in the middle 80s. Rain chances will function near zero although winds may be a bit blustery at times. Stay alert at area beaches for sough seas and elevated rip current risk. Overnight expect mostly clear or partly cloudy skies with low in the 60s.

EXTENDED FORECAST HIGHLIGHTS: We’ll keep an eye on Maria and its track and impacts as it works its way to the north. Expect heavy surf and rip currents to continue. Mostly to partly sunny skies continue to sustain the daily picture. 10-20% shower chances during the week, light to moderate northeast breezes, daily highs mainly in the 80s, and nightly lows in the 60s.
