Bitter cold bites NC mountains

The temperature is nothing new for this time of year, mid twenties dipping into the teens at night. But the story on Tuesday is the wind adding a chill that can be downright dangerous. We recorded wind chills in the Blowing Rock area of 7 degrees. The National Weather Service says those temperatures can cause frostbite to exposed skin in less than 30 minutes.

We found many bundled up from head to toe still uncomfortable from the 25+ mph winds. But many businesses such as car repair shops and heating fuel suppliers are enjoying the extra cold temps.
