Police: Man attempted to rob grocery store, injured by security officers

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

A man was taken to the hospital after being injured by security officials while trying to rob a grocery store, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police.

The incident happened Friday night at the Compare Foods store near the intersection of Sugar Creek Road and N. Tryon Street.

Police say the man tried to rob the store. Private security officers who were already at the scene apprehended the man.

Officers say the would-be robber, whose name has not been released, was injured during the attempt to apprehend him. They did not specify what kind of injuries he suffered.

The man was taken from the scene to Carolinas Medical Center by Medic.

Police have not said what charges he will be facing.
