CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - If your New Year's resolution is to get healthy and lose weight, you know it can be an intimidating prospect. Many people give up before they even begin, but they don't have to.
Certified personal trainer and nutritionist Chris Bryan visited WBTV News Saturday Morning to share his advice, some of which follows:
Don't let resolutions hold you back! With a little bit of planning, you can start 2015 strong and maintain your momentum.
PLANNING, PRIORITIZING: Set a realistic goal, and find friends to join you. With a plan, you can accomplish just about anything. Identify small windows of time when you can focus on working out. Make time for fitness, just like you make time for eating and sleeping.
NUTRITION: Clean up your nutrition, but do it incrementally: give up one thing for one month: start with sugar, bread, booze, soda. And drink lots of water, water, water. Water will give you energy and keep you hydrated.
SURGE EXERCISES: While we'd love to have a full hour to work out, that's just not possible when you're cooking and shopping and entertaining. Instead of skipping the workout all together, focus on a surge workout: three exercises for 30 seconds of high intensity work followed by 10 seconds of rest before starting the next exercise. Try knee highs, plyo pushups and jack squats.
