At least 10 students arrested after 2 fights at Charlotte high school

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

At least ten students were arrested Friday after two fights at a Charlotte school that sources say may have been gang-related.

The fights happened at Harding High School, which is on Alleghany Street in west Charlotte.

Sources told WBTV that the first fight happened just before lunchtime. One student was struck in the eye and needed medical attention.

At least nine students were arrested after the fight, officials said.

The second fight happened later in the afternoon in the parking lot of the school. One student was arrested after that fight.

School officials say that Harding went on lockdown at 10:45 a.m. because of the first fight. That lockdown was lifted at 11:15 a.m., but the school remained on a partial lockdown for the rest of the day.

Officials say there will be extra security at the school on Monday, and that the students involved will be disciplined.
