Kerrick Court Appearance; McManus Funeral Today

Good morning to you on this Thursday, 11 December 2014, from the WBTV News morning team...John Carter reporting to you this morning.  We invite you to join us from 4:30 to 9 AM this morning for Charlotte's only Emmy award winning newscast.  There's a lot to tell you about this morning.

The first thing you'll want to know this's COLD out there!  Be sure to bundle up when you head out the door.  As I write this note, it's 30 degrees in Charlotte...even colder in the mountains...where it's 20 degrees at the base of Sugar Mountain...16 degrees at the summit!  We'll see sunny skies today with highs only reaching the low 50s.  Al Conklin will have your complete First Alert Weather forecast.

The Charlotte Mecklenburg Police officer charged with shooting and killing an unarmed man will make a court appearance today.  Officer Randall Kerrick is charged in the death of Jonathan Ferrell.

Black lawmakers at the North Carolina General Assembly say they'll file legislation next year requiring some or all law enforcement officers to wear body cameras.  Rep. Kelly Alexander of Charlotte says North Carolina needs to get ahead of the curve to avoid problems found in other states.

Funeral services for a beloved Union County school bus driver will be held today. Timothy McManus died Monday when a garbage truck collided with his bus in Waxhaw.   His funeral will be at 7:00 tonight at Matthews Church of God.

We'll be LIVE from Charlotte-Douglas International Airport with a very interesting story of a big scam that's been taking place.  Police arrested Michael Borovetz on charges he convinced travelers he needed cash for a hotel room...but police say it's a lie he's told countless people across the country for 12 years.

We're learning more about the chase that started with a wreck on I-85 in Gaston County and ended with another wreck in South Carolina.  That wreck backed up rush hour traffic for miles.  One man has been arrested.

We'll have more on the wreck that injured Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton.  No charges have been filed in the wreck.  We have details from the police report.  Meanwhile, Newton will sit out this Sunday's game against Tampa Bay...Derek Anderson will get the start at QB.

How about this?  The Charlotte Hornets have won two games in a row!!  The Hornets beat the Boston Celtics 96 - 87 last night.

We'll have all those stories and so much our Mark Davenport LIVE in the Alert Center...when you join us from 4:30 to 7 AM on WBTV...then from 7 to 9 AM LIVE on the Bounce channel!  Hope to see you then!
