But he can also be a grizzled old “lifer” of 20 or 30 years.
She may be a college grad, having completed four years of ROTC.
He's a soldier, a sailor, an airman, a Marine…
He's somebody's son; she's somebody's wife or mother.
She spends months in basic training, learning to become a fighter.
He learns “Yes Sir!” “Yes Ma'am!” and the critical elements of teamwork.
Neither will make the money they deserve.
Chances are, he'll end up overseas, fighting to defend someone else's freedoms.
And the odds are far too high that he won't make it home in one piece.
But you can bet that these troops all have one thing in common: they love the United States of America…
enough so that they're willing to give their lives defending its citizens.
So, to our veterans on this Veterans Day – whether you're still in your teens or approaching the century mark…still enlisted or long since retired –
we want to say “Thank you” Thank you for your service, your sacrifices, for keeping our shores safe.
