Breaking News: One Dead Following Overnight Rowan Co. Fire

 BREAKING NEWS:  WBTV has confirmed one person is dead following a house fire in Rowan County.  It happened overnight, while you were sleeping, at a home in China Grove.  We have a crew at the scene and will bring you LIVE reports with the latest information.  At this point, no names have been released.

A Iredell County sheriff's deputy is on paid leave this morning after he fatally shot a mental health patient.  It happened along I-40.  


Two people in Mecklenburg County are being monitored for Ebola.  A memo written by Mecklenburg's county manager says the individuals arrived from 1 of the 3 countries experiencing widespread Ebola.  It says both are considered low-risk, and neither knows of having any contact with an Ebola patient.  The two will be checking their temperature twice a day for 21 days, and reporting to a nurse.


A local high school science teacher accused of having sex with a student is due in Union County court today.


More jobs are coming to the area.  Governor Pat McCrory announced that Gordon Food Service will build a new distribution center in Kannapolis...bringing 275 jobs.  The center is expected to open by the end of next year.


The "Savvy Senior Safety Seminar" is this morning at nine at the Levine Senior Center in Matthews.  It's designed to teach older adults, community groups, and caregivers about scams that target older adults.  Registration for the event begins at 8:15.


Tonight marks the first day of the 2014- 2015 NBA season.  The Charlotte Hornets will open their season Wednesday night at home.


NFL action!  The Washington Redskins beat the Dallas Cowboys in Monday Night Football action...but they had to go into overtime to do it.
