Three local restaurants avoid scam; police warn of other attempts

SALISBURY, NC (WBTV) - Three Salisbury restaurants were the apparent targets of a scam attempt on Wednesday, but fortunately, they did not fall for it.

According to police, someone called Honeybaked Ham, Italy Cafe, and Emma's.  In each case the caller claiming to be with Duke Power told the restaurant personnel that their utility payment was past due, and that if they did not immediately pay by credit or debit card, the power would be shut off.

Salisbury police warn that this is a common scam and urge anyone receiving such a call to write the number if it shows up in caller ID, report the call to police, and do not give out any financial card information.
