2 ECU students accused of ethnic intimidation

GREENVILLE, N.C. (AP) - Police in Greenville have arrested two men after a swastika was spray painted on the exterior door of an apartment near East Carolina University.

A police statement says 21-year-old Timothy Gill Jr. and 20-year-old Brandon Friedhoff both are charged with ethnic intimidation, injury to real property and first-degree trespass. Both men are students at ECU.

Police say the suspects are acquaintances of the victims, and that they believe the men intentionally targeted the residence because of the religious beliefs of at least one of the victims.

The residents of the apartment say they were home all night on Monday and were alerted to the vandalism by a passerby.

Both Gill and Friedhoff are free on bond from the Pitt County Detention Center. It's not known if they have attorneys.
