Three, including toddler, injured when vehicles collide in north Charlotte

Three people, including a 20-month-old, were seriously injured when two vehicles crashed in northeast Charlotte.

The crash happened around 7:20 a.m. Tuesday morning near the intersection of Rocky River Road and Hood Road.

Officials say 20-year-old Dequira Kenyatta Fleming was driving a 2002 Honda Accord along the 3600 block of Rocky River Road when she crossed the double-yellow line and struck a 2007 Volkswagen Jetta head-on.

Fleming's 20-month-old daughter was in the car as well. Emergency say both were critically injured in the crash.

The toddler was in a child booster seat which is not appropriate for the child's age and weight, investigators say.

The driver of the other vehicle, 41-year-old Michelle Maire Heffernan was seriously injured.

Heffernan and the child were taken to the hospital by ambulance, Fleming was rushed by helicopter.

Medical personnel says at least one person was pinned in each vehicle after the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
