Report: Duo robbed Food Lion, pistol whipped employee

UNION COUNTY, NC (WBTV) -

Authorities in Monroe are asking for the public's assistance in identifying two men they say robbed a grocery store and assaulted and employee.

The incident happened at the Food Lion on the 100 block of E. Sunset Drive around 6:30 a.m. on Sunday.

Officials said two black males went into the business armed with handguns as the first employee was opening the store. They were wearing ski masks and all black clothing.

During the robbery, one of the men reportedly pistol whipped the assistant manager. The victim was taken to Carolinas Medical Center – Union and is expected to be okay.
