JINAN, China (CNN) - Usually, people can't get rid of cockroaches fast enough, but a farmer in China collects and cooks them up.

Wang Fuming is no ordinary farmer. He's a roach farmer, and the bug business is booming.

Inside where they breed the cockroaches, it stinks of ammonia, and Fuming says that in those rooms there are nearly a million cockroaches. It is literally the stuff of nightmares.

Fuming said he feels close to them.

A crop of American cockroaches brings in serious cash for Fuming, who is a roach kingpin in a growing market in China.

In one giant packet of roaches almost six feet tall, Fuming said there's around half a ton of the critters. They could all be ordered by Chinese pharmaceutical companies.

Pharmaceutical companies peddle crushed roach pills in China as a catch-all cure for stomach, liver and heart ailments.

It's not just business for Fuming. Since the age of 7, he has been admiring and eating roaches. He prefers his roaches fried in peanut oil.

He wants to push it as a protein rich snack. It hasn't quite caught on yet.
