Report: Man arrested after police chase in stolen car

A Connelly Springs man was arrested on Friday after leading the authorities on a chase in a stolen car, according to a report from Lenoir Police.

David Lee Gross, 25, was arrested on 14 charges involving traffic violations during the pursuit, stolen property and drug paraphernalia.

The incident began on July 24 when a white Toyota Supra was stolen from the parking lot of Mountaineer Motors on Morganton Boulevard in Lenoir.

Just before 11 a.m. on August 29, officers saw a Toyota Supra they say was spray painted black at the intersection of Civic Court and Fairview Drive. Once they had confirmed that the stolen vehicle was still missing, they attempted to pull over the spray painted car.

The driver, David Gross, refused to stop and led the officers on a pursuit that wound through Lenoir and into Caldwell County, where Sheriff's Deputies took over.

Troopers then deployed stop sticks near Castle Bridge, and the car stopped shortly thereafter.

Gross however, jumped from the vehicle and attempted to run from the scene on foot. He was quickly taken into custody.

Gross was arrested on the charges and taken to the Caldwell County Magistrates Office where he was given a $100,000 bond. He is due in court on September 2.
