CAUGHT ON CAMERA: Evansville firefighter stops to comfort crying girl, becomes sweet reunion

EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -

An Evansville firefighter went beyond the call of duty during an emergency drill at Glenwood Academy on Wednesday and stopped to console a young student.

The special moment was caught on camera.

The photo of Rob Ralph, or Butter Bean as he's known around the station, is seen kneeling down talking to a student outside Glenwood, but there's more than meets the eye.

Rob says when he got off the firetruck, he noticed the little girl sitting on the ground crying.

As he walked up to tell her everything was going to be okay, he realized he knew the little girl quite well.

Rob tells 14 News that he and his wife had been fostering children for the past 15 years and Nevaeh was one of them.

She has since been reunited with her mother, but Rob says he'll never forget this special little girl.

"I don't know at first if she'd recognize me because I don't know if she's ever seen me in my fire gear," said Rob. "So I kind of took my helmet off to maybe allow her to see me a little bit better, just to let her know that everything's okay it was just a regular run, just an alarm. Heart always has a special place in it for her, for the simple fact that there's a history there. She's just the sweetest little girl that you could think of."

Rob says he's been an Evansville firefighter for the past 16 years.

He says that Wednesday's little reunion reminds him that he has the absolute best job in the world.
