Church fire no act of God

Hello and good morning! This is Christine Nelson. Today is Wednesday, August 27. The morning team went over the rundown with our executive producer so I can give you a first look at the stories making headlines - we, of course, will have all the details on these stories and more on WBTV News This Morning. We're live on the air from 4:30-9:00 a.m. on WBTV and Bounce TV.

Fire at church ruled an arson

Who would want to set fire to a church? We have reporter Ashton Pellom looking further into this arson this morning. This is the fire we first told you about that caused tens of thousands of dollars in damage at Temple of Refuge Church of the Living God in Charlotte. We have video you have to see of inside the church where the damage was extensive.

NEW overnight: We learned a former Salisbury athletic coach has died. He was in a car accident on Sherrills Ford Road.

Also, former Charlotte Mayor Patrick Cannon could know his fate as early as next week for accepting bribes while in office.

Happening TODAY: Same-sex couples and families will gather in uptown Charlotte to push Governor Pat McCrory to change the state's definition of marriage to include same-sex couples.

Here we are about the start the college football season and already UNC-Chapel Hill is answering to allegations of hazing on the football team. We'll tell you how school officials say they're responding.
