LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) -

Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office officials said there is an ongoing investigation into an incident at Oak Park Middle School.

At least three students at the school were taken to a local hospital Friday after ingesting an unknown substance, officials said.

Calcasieu Parish School Board Public Information Officer Kirby Smith said the students were taken to the hospital as a precaution.

Deputies are still working to determine what the children ingested.

The district did release a statement today that said, "The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office is leading an investigation into Friday's incident at Oak Park Middle School. At this time, it does not appear that the incident involved CPSB employees or tainted food prepared by the school. We'd like to thank the sheriff's department officials for their assistance and ask for the public's patience during their investigation as we are not at liberty to release additional details."

Authorities are currently conducting interviews and no arrests have been made at this time.

KPLC is looking into the matter and will provide information as it becomes available.
