CORAL GABLES, FL (WSVN/CNN) – A man and a woman are recovering after they were bitten by a crocodile in Coral Gables, FL.
Jorge Pino, with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, says it happened early Sunday morning.
The two were attending a party in the upscale neighborhood when they jumped into a canal behind the home.
“There were two individuals that decided that they wanted to jump in the water. They did. Our understanding is they were jumping in and out of the water. Perhaps that attracted the attention of the crocodile,” Pino said. “One crocodile came up and bit the female in the shoulder. She managed to get away and swim to the dock. The male that was also swimming also suffered some injuries or bites to his hands, but he also managed to make it to dock safely.”
The two were treated and released from a local hospital. There are signs along the canal, warning that there are crocodiles in the waterway.
