TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -  For her research on asthma, one U of A professor has received a Lifetime Achievement Award.  Dr. Lynn Gerald, PhD, MSPH received her award from the American Thoracic Society.  

This award is given to an individual who has provided outstanding service relevant to the behavioral or social aspects of the prevention or treatment of lung disease, critical illness or sleep disorders, according to a recent release from the U of A College of Public Medicine. 

Known nationally as an expert in school-based asthma, Dr. Gerald has worked to include implementing asthma-management programs, school based asthma case detections as well as internet-based asthma monitorings.  She also has extensive experience in clinical, behavioral and epidemiological research in asthma, COPD and tuberculosis.  

Dr. Gerald also leads a school-based, clinically focused asthma program in two of Southern Arizona's biggest school districts, Tucson Unified and Sunnyside Unified.  In addition she has served on many national and local boards, including the board of directors for the American Thoracic Society and the American Lung Association of Southern Arizona, and is currently principal investigator of the UA Asthma Clinical Research Center.  

She also has served on many thesis and dissertation committees and mentored many graduate students, fellows and junior faculty in the development of research programs.
