Man critically injured after shooting in east Charlotte parking lot

A 22-year-old man from Matthews is in the hospital after he was critically injured in a shooting in east Charlotte.

The shooting happened early Sunday morning along the 3600-block of East Independence Boulevard around 4:29 a.m. This is the strip mall that houses the Hibachi Grill.

According to the police report, 22-year-old Kareem Abdul Tomblin was shot in the abdomen. Officers say the shooting stemmed from an altercation in the parking lot. Tomblin did not know the shooter, police say.

He was rushed to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte with critical injuries.
