SALISBURY, NC (WBTV) -

Usually when a football coach gets a bucket of cold water dumped on his head, it's to celebrate a great victory, but in this case, it's to bring awareness to a deadly disease.

Tonight Salisbury High and Carson kick off the season with their game at Carson.  Carson coach Joe Pinyan and his entire staff  have already taken part in the challenge that benefits finding a cure for ALS, but he hasn't stopped there.

Tonight the school will be taking donations at the gate, and Pinyan told WBTV that if $1000 is raised by the half, then Salisbury principal Luke Brown and Carson principal Angelo DelliSanti will take part in the challenge.

Pinyan is expects a good turnout for the game and hopes folks will be "up to the challenge."
