CHARLOTTE, N.C. -

Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton made a surprise hospital visit to a high school quarterback recovering from a brain injury.

TMZ reported Thursday that Newton visited Jaylend Ratliffe at a Charlotte-area hospital on Tuesday. Ratliffe fractured his skull on July 30 in an ATV accident.

Ratliffe had emergency brain surgery and a tracheotomy. Ratliffe had been offered a full scholarship to Georgia Tech before the accident.

TMZ said that Newton got word of Ratliffe's story through friends at Georgia Tech. Newton even brought some Panther's swag , including an autographed football, to Ratliffe.

Ratliffe's family gave Newton ad “2 Strong” T-shirt, which they are selling to help pay for their son's medical bills. A GoFundMe page has also been created in Jaylend's name to help the family pay for expenses.

TMZ also reported that Georgia Tech has offered to honor the scholarship even after the accident.
