An Evansville mom is behind bars, after police say she left her 4-year-old daughter at Wal-Mart after being accused of shoplifting.

According to the probable cause affidavit, Tarshanna Rosario was arrested Thursday morning after she confessed to police that she shoplifted from Wal-Mart and left her 4-year-old behind when she fled.

The alleged shoplifting happened back on August 11th at the Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market on Taylor Avenue.

The affidavit states, a loss prevention officer for Wal-Mart witnessed Rosario taking various items from the shelves and placing them into her purse and stroller.

The loss prevention officer confronted Rosario once she passed all the points of sale without paying.

The affidavit shows Rosario was first cooperative with the loss prevention officer, but then ran from the store leaving behind her 4-year-old daughter, when he asked her to come back inside the store.

The child's aunt was also in the store and told police a false name of her sister, according to the affidavit.

Police were able to view video from the store, and were able to find Rosario's home.

The affidavit states, when police question Rosario she told them she was working at lady's Footlocker at the time of the thefts. When police informed her the store was closed at the time of the thefts, she confessed to stealing the items and leaving her daughter behind when she ran.

Rosario is charged with theft, and child abandonment.
