Man shot after argument near popular Charlotte shopping center


A man was arrested after another man was found seriously injured after being shot at a popular shopping center in Steele Creek.

Alfred Rivera-Padilla was arrested and charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon and assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury.

According to police, officers were called to the report of a shooting along the 12700 block of S. Tryon Street just before noon Thursday. This is near the Rivergate shopping center.

An officer was conducting a traffic stop nearby and responded to the scene.  He found a man with a serious gunshot wound.

The victim was transported by Medic to Carolinas Medical Center with critical injuries. His identity has not been released.

Investigators say the victim knew Rivera-Padilla and that there was an altercation that led to the shooting, and this was not a random act of violence.

Rivera-Padilla was arrested on the 12300 block of Toscana Way a short time after the incident.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call 704-432-TIPS and speak directly to a Homicide Unit Detective. Detective Carter is the lead detective assigned to the case.
