Officials say a second person has died after a deadly head-on crash that involved alcohol on Wednesday night in Monroe.
According to investigators, 64-year-old Paul Randall Dye died from his injuries.
Dye was mortally wounded in a crash along Highway 74 near John Moore Road. It happened around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday night.
Officials said that 53-year-old Jose Herrera, of Reidsville, was traveling west on Hwy 74 when he crossed the center line and hit another car head-on. The second car then struck a tractor trailer.
Dye was injured and his girlfriend, 70-year-old Laral Leslie Callahan, was killed in the crash. Dye later succumbed to his injuries.
Herrera was also injured in the wreck and taken to the hospital. He is expected to be okay.
Officials said Thursday that alcohol was involved in the crash, and that evidence was turned over to the Union County District Attorney's Office to determine what charges will be filed.
