VIDEO: Former NC Governor takes 'Ice Bucket Challenge,' challenges past leaders

A former North Carolina Governor has taken the challenge and is issuing his own. Jim Martin is calling on the state's other former governors to take the ALS "Ice Bucket Challenge."

The challenge has gone viral in recent weeks helping raise money and awareness for the disease also known as "Lou Gehrig's Disease."

The person being challenged has 24 hours to dump a bucket of ice water on their head. They are also to donate $10 to an ALS organization. If they fail to comply within 24 hours they are supposed to donate $100.

Once completing the challenge, the person can then nominate others.

ALS is an important cause to former Governor Martin. His brother, Joe, died from the disease in 2006 after a 12-year battle.

Joe Martin was an executive for Charlotte-based Bank of America and a foundation was set up in his name. It provides a range of services to those afflicted with ALS.
