RALEIGH, N.C. -

A Raleigh woman is witnessing violence in Israel first hand.

“Growing up in North Carolina, war is what we watch Mel Gibson in the movies; it's not a reality,” said Robin Graham.

Graham was born in the Triangle but now chooses to raise her two children in war-torn Israel. She is Jewish and that faith led her to move her husband and children to Israel six years ago.

She said sirens went off just Tuesday night, alerting her family to take cover, following a brief cease fire.

"It's just instant terror and as a parent you just know you have to move forward and do what you need to do to get your family to the safest measure possible," Graham said.

So far in the conflict between Israel and Hamas, more than 2,000 Palestinians, mostly civilians, have been killed, as well as some 70 Israelis, predominately soldiers.

"It's very surreal to me and that siren tonight, you know, made everything more clear than I ever thought I would exist in," said Graham.
