Authorities say Denham Springs couple overdosed on heroin with kids in back seat

METAIRIE, LA (WAFB) -

Authorities reported a man and woman found passed out in a car in Metairie due to overdosing on heroin, with their two young children in the back seat, are from Livingston Parish.

The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office reported Michael Pierce, 41, and his wife, Melanie, 34, both of Denham Springs, were arrested Sunday afternoon. One of their sons is four years old and the other is 11 months. The pair was booked on the following charges:

Possession of heroin

Possession of drug paraphernalia

Illegal possession of a controlled dangerous substance in the presence of a minor

Child endangerment

Deputies said they were called to the parking lot of a restaurant on Bonnabel Boulevard in Metairie around 2:30 p.m. They said the first deputies on the scene determined the man and woman in the front seat of a 2014 Toyota Camry were experiencing medical problems.

Investigators said when questioned, both the man and woman admitted to using heroin earlier in the day. They added a small amount of heroin was found inside the car.

According to reports, the Pierces also stated they each have a $200 a day heroin habit.
