SALISBURY, NC (WBTV) -

A Salisbury woman has been charged with neglect after her 10-year-old daughter was found crying alone in an apartment complex playground.

A family friend saw the child and called police Wednesday.

According to the report, the child told the woman that she was crying because her mother, Josephine Bombo,  left her alone on the playground at Brookview Apartments while she drove to Winston-Salem.

When police arrived they did find the girl and noted that she was "visibly upset."

Police called DSS and they took a report, but left the girl with the woman who had made the original call.  The woman had volunteered to take care of the girl until the mother returned.

The woman told police that Bombo had frequently left the girl alone in the park while she ran errands.

A short time later police were called again, this time to home of the original caller for a disturbance call.

The woman told police that when Bombo returned, she angrily confronted her and even punched her.  Police advised the woman that she could take out a warrant for assault.

Bombo was charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor.  She was jailed under $1000 bond.

We are getting a clearer picture now on the timing and arrival of rain for our First Alert Days Monday and Tuesday. We want to emphasize there is no severe weather threat this week, but just don't want anybody to get caught off guard by the heavy rain after such a beautiful weekend.
