Deputies: 'Elaborate' cockfighting operation, 200 birds found during drug bust

CHESTER COUNTY, SC (WBTV) -

Five people were arrested and more than 200 birds seized after a cockfighting operation was uncovered during a drug bust in Chester County.

The discovery came on August 8 when deputies served a search warrant for an indoor marijuana manufacturing operation. Investigators have not disclosed the exact location of the bust.

During the execution of the search warrant, deputies found 20 pounds of marijuana and an "elaborate cockfighting operation," according to the official release.

Deputies said that more than 200 birds were found on the property, along with a cockfighting arena and other cockfighting materials.

Vidal Osa, Odalmis Labanino, Reinier Guerra, Pablo Delgado, and Gladis Iriarte were all arrested on several charges related to the drugs, cockfighting operation and property.

"This was a big operation that was uncovered in Chester County," Sheriff Alex Underwood said. "These types of operations are on the rise and I am pleased that we were able to infiltrate this one here in Chester County. This is a good example of the community working together. Just on one tip, we were able to uncover and disband an operation that could have potentially posed a serious threat to our community."
