Community garden needs volunteers after Savannah flooding

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Midtown Miracle Community Garden is in need of volunteers to help clean up after heavy rains caused flooding in the Savannah area damaging the infrastructure of the garden.

MMCG's purpose is to provide the land for mixed use gardens consisting of produce and flowers. The garden asks for any plot holders to give excess produce to the Second Harvest Food Bank.

The garden also grows herbs and spices for Kids Cafe in Savannah which is an afterschool feeding program for children in need.

"Everything has to be nailed down securely. We have a handicap ramp that was moved, oh I don't know, four, five, six feet away from its original location. That is going to take a crew of people to lift and move back again. We really could use the help," said Carol Towbin Greenburg, Founding Administrator, Midtown Miracle Community Garden.

Donations are also being accepted for driveway gravel, drainage supplies, and hardware building supplies.

Volunteering in the garden is community service but if you do not have the time to volunteer tax deductible monetary donations will be accepted as well.

To volunteer at Midtown Miracle Community Garden call (912)-352-1238 or email Carol at MStarArts@gmail.com
